Wayfinding is at the heart of this project using pattern and colour to guide the children from the playground to the internal spaces. The narrative was created in collaboration with the teaching staff and the pupils to identify cultural themes and educational approaches. The work created during practical workshops forms the basis of our design process.

The artworks are integrated into the fabric of the buildings providing a playful twist
to the modern architecture. A series of engraved outdoor facades were designed for each classroom entrance as well as indoors artwork integrated within the interiors of the school.

We worked with historian Katherine Forsyth from Glasgow University to discuss the history of the Pictish symbols. Pictish is the extinct language spoken by the Picts, the people of northern and eastern Scotland from Late Antiquity to the Early Middle Ages. Bringing history and heritage to life in the classroom, the Pictish alphabet is displayed on the wall of the library for children to learn this ancient script. Throughout the school, various words are written in Pictish to encourage learning through a secretive game as only the pupils would understand the symbols.

We created an interiors design scheme with integrated artworks throughout the school with manifestations, wallcoverings and acoustic panels.
