Our designs respond to and are informed by the overall building design by Collective Architecture. The building has green roofs which form part of the green link that has been created through the town centre.
The project is inspired by this green link alongside the circular natural history of East Calder starting with the Carboniferous period and historic plant life encapsulated within shale and limestone.
Fossil textures and forms found in Almondell and Calderwood Country Park create a visual link between the past and present from the countryside plant life of today to the exotic rainforest of the carboniferous era.
The Wall hanging design features oversized ferns, scale trees and conifers that once dominated the landscape.
We gathered creative ideas by working with local community groups. Together we created colourful patterns through heat transfer printing which influenced our designs.
Our original drawings were digitally manipulated to create the final design which was printed on to a Scottish wool base from Bute Fabrics.
We worked with the Linlithgow and District Embroiderers Guild to embellish sections of the design to create a three dimensional aspect to the final artwork.
We worked closely with our install team to fabricate a bespoke hanging bracket to seamlessly showcase the artwork. We applied clear window vinyl to the large glazing panels that surround the piece to protect the fabric from UV rays.
The lush and tropical design aesthetic spans the complimentary printed literature and signage which sits alongside the artwork within the partnership centre.
